I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t expect to like today’s selection, Lean Cuisine’s Chicken Pot Stickers.
Sure, everything about it sounds great: Asian-style chicken dumplings with a variety of veggies in a sweet chili ginger soy sauce. All those things are tasty. But in a frozen-to-s steam bag, well, the best sounding food often goes terribly, terribly wrong.
As insurance, I brought plenty of healthy side dishes (cantaloupe, an apple, yogurt) to tied me over in case this dish ended up in the trash.
But I was very pleased to be wrong. This entree is surprisingly good. Very good, actually.
The five pot stickers have a firm texture (but not chewy) and a generous amount of filling. The veggies are crisp tender and it’s a bountiful mix of water chestnuts, red peppers, green beans, carrots and edamame, so you are eating the nutrition rainbow here.
The sauce has that sweet chili zing that I adore, and there was enough sauce to complement the dish without it being soupy.
It’s a good deal for a dieter at 270 calories, 6 grams of fat, 5 grams of fiber, and 11 grams of protein. It’s only nutritional drawback is 750 mg of salt, which is a little over 30 percent of the recommended daily. So I plan to drink extra water.
So, whenever I skip a desktop lunch review in the future, you can probably bet it’s because I am having this one again.
