Desktop lunch review: On top of spaghetti

It is my goal this week to post a desktop lunch review every day.

Today we start with an Italian/American classic, spaghetti with meatballs, or at least Lean Cuisine’s reasonable facsimile thereof.

Today’s entree is described by it’s maker as a “simple favorite” and indeed, who doesn’t like spaghetti and meatballs? Even the most picky eater with throwdown on some noodles with sauce and meatballs.

In this version, the noodles are al dente. The gravy, while not quite as “hearty” as the box described, was adequate to cover but not overwhelm the pasta and did contain about a half dozen or so recognizable chunks of tomatoes.

The meatballs had about the same texture and slightly more flavor than the ones prepared by that renowned cookery artist, Chef Boyardee.

Sprinkling a bit of dried oregano and red pepper flakes always wakes up these rather sleepy interpretations of Mediterranean dishes.

For less than $2 a box on sale, 270 calories, 6 grams of fat and 580 mg of sodium (a quarter of the daily recommended intake) this dish will stay in my rotation.
